As the premier home pressure washing and roof cleaning business in Westchester County, NY, we at Westchester Power Washing get a lot of questions about pressure cleaning and roof washing.
This year includes questions regarding our power washing services and it affects on eliminating or reducing COVID-19, also known as the coronavirus.
Before I get into residential roof cleaning and pressure cleaning questions and answers, I will introduce myself.
My name is Peter Salotto, owner of Westchester Power Washing. I have been pressure washing homes and cleaning roofs, patios, decks, walkways, driveways, stairs, walls, fences, composite, wood, stones, and home siding since 1990. I have washed every size home and every structure type of home there is in western New York.
I am a retired NY police officer. During my off duty hours, I pressure cleaned homes and roofs instead of working overtime. After retiring from police work, I continued serving the community by cleaning home exteriors, roofs, patios, and, decks of grime instead of cleaning the streets of crime. (My attempt at humor.)
Therefore, I have more than 30 years of experience in residential pressure cleaning and roof washing. Over those years, I have power washed more than 18,000 homes in Westchester, Putnam, and Dutchess County. Again, this includes pressure washing pavers, bricks, stones, composite decks, wood, concrete, slate roofs, shingle roofs, asphalt roofs, tile roofs, pool decks, stairs, siding, fencing, walls as well as outdoor furniture, brick kitchens, and barbecues.

Questions:
Do home pressure washing and roof cleaning companies need to be insured in Westchester, Putnam, and Dutchess County? Should I hire a company that does not have insurance specifically for pressure cleaning?
Unfortunately, insurance is not required though it should be. Pressure washing and roof cleaning can be dangerous when inexperienced people use a pressure washer or work on your property.
We pay a high premium to have insurance that is specifically for pressure cleaning and roof washing. Our insurance includes worker’s compensation and liability.
Even though we have more than 30 years of experience, we still do not believe in taking unnecessary risks.
No, you should not hire a company that cannot show you they have insurance specific for pressure cleaning. If you do, then you take the burden of the risk which you should not.
We do not cut corners or try to take the easy way when it comes to making sure your roof is washed safely, and your home and property are cared for as if it were our own.
What is the best and recommended way to wash a roof?
The recommended and the best way to wash a roof- be it shingle, asphalt, slate, tile, or metal- is soft roof washing. Soft roof washing is a gentle process of soaking your roof with a biodegradable, environmentally friendly cleaning solution. After allowing the cleaning solution to absorb, we gently spray your roof with water to wash the black streaks, mold, mildew, fungus, and bacteria away.
According to roof manufactures and the roof washing organizations, the best and safest way to wash a roof is to use the method described above.
Some companies use high-pressure washing to wash your roof. This will damage your roof and cause other structural damages. Others use heavy machinery to buff away your roof stains, this again is definitely going to cause roof damage as well as possibly damage your roof trusses due to the extra weight and rotational motion of the machine.
Never use high pressure on your roof. Soft roof washing is the best way to clean a roof. Over a period of a few days and weeks, you will notice your roof gets even cleaner as the solution is still killing mold, mildew, and bacteria which causes the dark stains.
By the way, do not hire a roofer to wash your roof. Most times that will convince you that your roof needs to be repaired or replaced when all you need is to have your roof soft-washed.
All pressure cleaning and roof cleaning companies do the same thing. So why not just hire the cheapest person to wash my home, patio, deck, siding, and roof?
All roof washing and pressure cleaning companies advertise the same service but do not wash the same way.
As mentioned above, some companies use high water pressure to wash roofs and siding thereby damaging the roof and siding. We also use a pressure washer, but we use it on low water pressure to soft-wash your roof.
Some roof washing and pressure cleaning companies use dangerous and harsh chemicals to clean your roof, siding, patio, decks, walkways, and house. We use cleaning solutions as well. Our cleaning solutions are eco-friendly and will not harm your family, pets, home, or foliage.
Due to COVID19, are you still able to provide roof washing and home pressure cleaning services?
Yes, we are still pressure washing homes and roofs even though COVID-19 is here.
We practice social distancing and do not need to have close interaction with anyone in your home. We pressure wash and clean your roof without any engagement from you.
